people may want to know there are three versions of this spare tire holder. the difference is in the front bracket where the bolt goes ....... that part is either very flat ( early vanagons ) or slightly 'dropped', like 1/4 inch ..........that's for vanagons that take 195/75 R 14 tires,

and dropped almost an inch.........this version came on vans that had 205/70 R 14 Reinforced tires as original equipment. Like starting with syncro in 1986 .....my 87 Wolfsburg came with this size too. This last one is the one we usually want, to carry our bigger spare tires.

I've seen aftermarket custom spare tire holders. for really thick tires ..........but they don't protect the side of the tire at all........ like from being hit by rocks from underneath. For road use that's fine, but seems to me for anything serious, you'd want a nice flat/round protector thing on the bottom side of the spare, , like VW made it. Scott www.turbovans.com
