So... I stopped to help somebody broken down beside the road. Yeah, I know, what a laugh! But it was a Volkswagen camper, and I've gotten my share of help. :)

As I got closer, I could tell it wasn't a Westphalia, but I didn't know what it was. Then I saw it had German license plates. It turns out the person in the overalls hanging out the back end was a woman named Gitta, from Germany and on a (so far) 7 month tour of the states, now working from the left coast back to Yellowstone. Slobbery sheep dog named Sam. She's had her van 10 years, started doing her own mechanics when she came over here. Her Vanagon has a turbo diesel. I just waited to see if we needed to run and get parts, watched and asked a bunch of questions. She fixed a broken wire that was making the oil warning light and buzzer freak out. I helped her put all the stuff back in place, she offered some tea and I gave her a book.

Her camper was a high top like an AdventureWagen, but with a huge sunroof and a small popup in the back, built-in awning over the side door. She said they're pretty common in Germany. The interior was different than Westies, but looked pretty useable.

Anyway, that's my Westy adventure for the day. You meet the nicest people in Volkswagens!

Matt
