Funny, I'm one of those people who want to know what the gauge *really* means when it gets down in the red, so usually one of the first things I do with a vehicle is run it dry. IIRC my '84 was able to take 15.7+ from dry, including slow fill at the very end to make sure the overflow shutoff really meant it. US gallons, that is.
