So I did some asking on the Samba about the Running Rich issue as
well, most feel its the 02 sensor or the wiring.
One person suggested using another 02 sensor which they have been
using for years with good results.
Funagon (on the samba)
Stated:
"The Oxy sensor is quite sensitive. I've had a few OXS's crap out for
no reason. I've purchased the expensive "correct" part that costs over
$100 and had it go bad in a week! Silicone residue will ruin an OXS,
and I've found that a new engine can ruin an Oxy sensor, until after
the engine burns off the residue from engine sealant and other
contaminants. For just this very reason Boston Bob has suggested
running a new engine without the OXS until the first or second oil
change!
I don't know about that, but I don't buy the expensive OXS anymore.
You can go to Kragen/Checker/Autozone and ask for BOSCH oxygen sensor
part # 13913. Costs about $40. Less if you have a coupon or print out
a cheaper price from the store website. This Bosch sensor is exactly
the same, with a different 3-wire connector so you have to do a nice
job of splicing your old connector onto the new OXS. Make the
connection waterproof and all will be good.
I've used this OXS with my 2.2 WBX for thousands of miles, no problem.
Getting an honest 19-21 mpg in my 7-passenger van."
I verified it at autozone and indeed it is that price. I am just not
sure I want to use something not spec with the vw manual.
I only wonder now if it will that mess with the State Emissions at
all? I checked and the costs of a recommended sensor is somewhere
around $130 dollars.
Any feedback on this non standard O2 sensor?
