yeah, remove the speedo, open it up, remove the L -shpaed circuit board that is the DOPS. it's shown in Bentley in pictures. That's one over-kill way.

you could try just grounding the wire in the engine compartment that goes to the oil prss. switch by the crankshaft pulley. 'that wire grounded' is equivilant to 'enough oil pressure over 2,000 rpm' ( or whatever the rpm threshold is for that part of the O P warning circuit is ) . If this doesn't do it, remove the little electronic circuit from inside the speedo as above. I've done it on a jetta before. I kinda remember that the basic oil warning light still workedon that one. .........though I can't say about a vanagon for sure right now.
