fwiw, I don't consider vanagons to have 'door chimes' but they do have a key buzzer ..... which I guess is what's being talked about. I *always* remove key buzzers from my vanagons. what cars have a chime ? ....honda's ? I remember a not-that-oboxious chime on some cars, from when I worked on every kind of foreign car . and I don't think I've seen a vanagon with one.
