Subject: Bolts and Banjo fittings (M12 x 1.5mm) for ATF cooler
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1
Greetings folks, from downunder,
In my auto '82 Vanagon I have a Subaru EJ22. The engine (and
transmission) is mounted rather further forwarded in these vehicles
than in later ones (so I understand). This is why I had to use the
Kennedy special air inlet on the EJ22. A complication I found was
when I replaced the earlier auto trans with '86 model I had to add an
"external" ATF cooler. (This is in the radiator, as it turns out.)
The stock cooler just does not fit on the later transmission if used
in the aircooled Vanagon. SO, I made up some right-angled brass
adapters and barbs to which I fixed rubber hose and ran them out to
copper lines to the radiator. (A bit like the early Smallcar brass
connectors.)
This is all fine, except that with the small movement between the
transmission and the hoses I have developed leaks (a couple of times
catastrophic leaks) of ATF. I can't seem to get rid of the leak and
banjo fittings seem a better prospect. I want to permanently get rid
of this problem, especially when travelling to remote places.
The original banjo bolts fromthe auto trans are far too long to use.
I know there are more usable bolts available but have not been able to
find them downunder . . or at least people don't admit to knowing
anything about them - although I'd be pretty sure they are on SOME
models here. (I think I have seen them in the UK.)
I am looking for second hand banjo bolts and fittings. They are M12 x
1.5mm and about 65mm long (plus head). I understand these were used on
some early Golfs, other Vwss and BMWs in the fuel delivery system.
People on this list HAVE referred to them in the past, I'm sure. They
are the same dimensions (but much shorter than) those used in the
Transporter/Caravelle auto transmissions to hold and service the ATF
cooler. The beauty of them as far as I am concerned is that they do
not protrude far out of the transmission and so would not foul on the
body of the vehicle. If anyone knows what the distance from the
transmission face to the end of the bolt head is, that would be most
useful to know.
Has anyone anything like these available, or suggestions as to who
might have them?I need the two bolts and the two banjo fittings
(preferably with 300-500mm hose still attached, though this isn't
necessary). Second hand is preferred obo cost.
I'd be really be pleased to have any suggestions.
Thanks
Dave
