This agrees with my observation on non-Syncro speedos. I presume the Syncro ones are similar. I've never hesitated to push the button under any circumstances, 150k miles no problem.

That being said, I wonder (don't have one to look at here) -- is it possible that holding the button while van is moving will let the possibility arise of some sort of torque on re-engagement of the gears? That's just a WAG at the moment, I don't have a clear picture of the mechanism in mind.
