I think everyone has it covered for you - here is my .02 - I've driven 395 lots of times in my 87 2wd and Syncro with no problems. Steady climbing and long grades especially north out of Bishop, and north out of the Lee Vining area. If you have a/c turn it off on those grades, but typically it is only really hot this time of year on the climb out of Bishop. It's a great area. If you have time to drive a bit north of Mammoth and check out Mono Lake and/or ghost town of Bodie, it's worth it.
