There is information in the archives and on various websites on how to repair it yourself. If you do not feel up to fixing it yourself there are a number of vendors that will do so for a fee including Palo Alto Speedometer, Overseas Speedometer(aka speedometer.com), and one or more Vanagon parts supplier(s) advertises that they do this also. Prices vary from around $50.00 to $150.00. Should you ship yours to a shop I suggest using a method that requires a signature and notification to you upon delivery. I sent one out for one of my Syncros and it has not been seen since. Even though your 2whl drive one is much easier and cheaper to replace than one for a Syncro it is better to be safe than sorry. The speedo is not likely to fail, the odometer does because it is a plastic gear on a metal shaft.
