I used logic while troubleshooting the poor running. All the vacuum hoses and connections were good so I looked at the rubber plug on the dipstick, the O-ring seal at the base of the dipstick then realized that the oil fill tube's plastic half wiggled excessively on the metal part of the tube. The oil fill cap, after all, does have a rubber seal inside. It was just part of the process of elimination.
