You're right John......... 'Driving' as we know it .......... sad to say .......but the writing is on the wall that that era is slowly fading away. Enjoy them while we can I say ....... or stop our out of control government.

Some day, and not all that far in the future .......I'll suspect we'll be saying things like : "hey, wasn't that great back then............you could just drive the local gas station, fill up for no worse than 35 bucks or so ...... and drive*anywhere* we wanted to, 24-7 ...........essentially, use our roads and vehicles however we wished, as long as it was responsible and considerate of others. Heck, we could drive across deserts so vast and empty you could drive on the wrong side of the road, and it didn't matter. Remember how we didn't even have to go to our computer to program where we wanted our car to go ?? Wasn't that wonderful !! Remember when we could buy $ 10,000 worth of gas or diesel fuel if we wanted, and drive 25,000 miles in a year if we wanted ? Man, those were the days. Like...........wasn't it great when there wasn't a government supplied GPS device in our car, tamper proof of course ..........so the government could tax us on the miles we drive, not just the fuel we buy. Wasn't that all great back then !!? "

an no kidding.........Oregon is contemplating the GPS device so they can tax on miles driven. And isn't that going to be funny for people driving 50 mpg cars ? ............sure they save on fuel, and fuel taxes......but since their high mileage reduces government income, the gov has to find another way to get it .......... so ..........even though you get 50 mpg, you PAY for miles covered anyway ...........and you are not really saving that much anyway.

In all cases, as the size of the beuaracrcy goes up, services and efficiency goes down, up, and the cost of running it all increases. A never ending cycle of diminished returns for energy invested. We pay more and more, and we get less and less.

now they can't even keep libraries and parks open. holly crap. It's a durn shame Mabel, it's just a durn shame.

and kids, I really, really hope I am wrong, but things are changing so fast on the autotive and driving landscape ....... that even in 5 years we might not recongize what today looks like to us, f=driviung and car-wise.

oh well ! at least I got to enjoy drving when a good used car cost 400 bucks max, and gas was 23 cents a gallon. And you could drive all over the colorado mountains all night on a full moon night and spend about 4 dollars total, if that, on gas. And we didn't have no goll-drun electronics running our cars by golly !!

( no, I do appreciate electronics on cars for sure ...just had to say it for affect ! ) I better be quiet and work some ! I have not yet taught all these vanagons how to fix themselves, after all. scott turbovans.com
