If you live in a town big enough to have a speedo shop (the instrument, not your low-rise spandex swimsuit) they do this in minutes.

But also -- I recently noticed in the HELP! section of my FLAPS a do-it-yourself speedo cable replacement. You cut to length and presumably do something to make the square end. Of course, this only replaces the inner cable but that is what usually is needed.

Note -- I have not tried this kit myself so I can't attest to it's suitability.
