In that case, you have a handful of spares - a good idea.

I wonder if anyone has an injector cross reference that can be used to locate donors from non Vanagon's? Such a cross reference would ne very handy to those searching scrap yards for parts.

These injectors came out of my '86 with the toasted motor. Seeing as how 3 out of the four didn't spray at all, it was either get them cleaned or trash them. The van into which they are going doesn't have any running issues at the moment, so I should be able to tell pretty easily if there's any other benefit.

Probably just cleaning and spray pattern & leak testing since you really can't rebuild them. Injectors are basically poppet valves and they are service items. They work until they wear out then you replace them with new or tested used ones. But since they are just poppet valves & they wear, don't expect tested used ones to last near as long as new replacements!

It's too easy to "try this, try that" when troubleshooting a problem. And sometimes injectors are blamed for other issues just like oxygen sensors, spark plugs & wires are blamed for other issues & they get changed out. Also, thousands of gallons of injector cleaner are sold every year for the same shot gun troubleshooting.

I tried rebuilding Mercedes diesel injectors for a while but stopped because too many customers wanted their money back when the injectors were 'still bad'. Most injectors I went through tested fine and all that I shipped out passed all tests. I replaced the injector in those that failed spray pattern or leak down and swapped the ship out in those that failed the pressure test. The problem was that Customers were sending in injectors for other issues and when they re-installed the injectors, those other issues still existed.

I have no experience with this. Can I ask what did the $19 cover? Cleaning, I suppose?
