Enlargement using a small air-powered metal saw and welding in a deeper bottom or wider forward extension, haven't decided for sure which direction I'll go but the space permits either by 2.5". Also possible on a Westy (with more difficulty) but only in the vertical plane. The AGM batteries can be tipped on their side if I go horizontally.
The vertical arrangement doesn't sound like it would be too bad, particularly if the batteries have side mount terminals. I can actually see fabricating a metal box just slightly larger than what's there and then using some industrial epoxy, for those of us who do not weld. Scott, from turbovans mentioned an epoxy brand the other day, that would handle the job nicely. Would just have to rig up something to hold the box there while the epoxy dried. I guess it could be bolted on too. I'm not sure how safe it would be welding right next to that overflow tank for the gas-- I recall smelling some fumes while I was running wires from one battery to the other. Great ideal though. It would be nice to see pictures of your finished set-up. Troy |
