Imprecations? Dear dear dear... ;-)

Do as I do -- remove all the parts of the message you're replying to except what's needed to give context to your own remarks.

How you do that specifically in gmail I haven't a clue. Well, not quite true -- if you're using Windows I imagine you click-drag to select the text you want to delete, then hit Ctrl-X or the Delete key like you would in any Windows application.

I suspect you're looking for something more complicated than that, but it isn't.
