Subject: Re: Dometic Exhaust O Ring
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; format=flowed

Date: Sat, 1 Aug 2009 11:52:13 -0700 From: neil N <musomuso@GMAIL.COM> Hi all. In refitting the exhaust/intake manifold on my 182B, the exhaust O ring broke. Likely I should replace the ring on both the exhaust and inlet pipes. (there was a slight leak at this part in spite of added muffler cement. Pipes ok) What can I use as a replacement? Are these rings neoprene? Maybe get from my FLAPS? Thanks for any pointers to a solution. Hopefully it's not a Dometic only part. <rolls eyes> ;) ---------------- Neil,

Happy BC-Day... Long Weekend here in Canuck-Land.......

Hmmmm, checked all my known Dometic information, do not find a part number or size for the two O-Rings you are asking about.... The O-Ring material is probably Viton. Good for up to 200 C temperatures, for the exhaust pipe!

A Dometic only part? Fortunately no. A FLAPS might have a close match, LORDCO or Crappy Tire? The material they stock, more than likely, will be a generic rubber or neoprene; which will not take the high temperatures on the exhaust pipe.

My advice is to visit your local BC Bearing Engineering LTD Store on Tuesday. Take the o-rings with you (even the broken one) for matching for size.

They will have a real nifty "O-Ring Sizer Cone" thing... that measures the size of o-rings, even broken ones. They stock 1000 of sizes and will sell you a package of 5 (of each size) for the grand total of about $5. The package will have the o-ring size printed on the label... then you can tell the rest of use what sizes of O-Rings that Dometic uses....
