The smell of Vermont Maid "Maple" syrup, left over on a plate after
performing waffle duty, is most unfortunately reminiscent of the
smell of a hot weeping cooling fitting on one of our beloved
beasts.  For those of us tuned to the latter, the former provides a
most unpleasant frisson when encountered unexpectedly.
