[not a Dometic expert as such]

I'll bet a nickel it's a filter, on the outside where it oughta be
instead of buried inside the valve like on the 182B.  If I'm right,
then it strains crud out of the incoming gas stream before it can get
to say the pilot orifice or other skinny bits.  ;-)

I wouldn't hesitate to swap over just as she lies.
