Ben,
Since you mentioned a Jeep, I can recommend one - I've owned several and our
families have owned a few more. I've worked on all of them a time or two.
Probably the best older one is a 2001 Grand Cherokee with the inline 6.
The 2001 has a 4 speed OD automatic with a tow mode switch. Pressing the
switch modifies the shift points and keeps the transmission out of 4th gear.
The 6 cylinder 4WD works well in the snow but it's not the same off road
system that's installed behind the V-8. The newer stability control + 4WD
work great together on the road but just like the older systems installed
behind the 6 cylinder, it's not for serious off roading. All for wheels free
wheel and the system uses ABS to lock out spinning wheels.
The new ones are nice - we own two, a 08 Liberty and a 09 Grand Cherokee.
I've set both Jeeps up for towing and they seem to do as well but a new Jeep
is probably a pricy solution for just a tow vehicle.
Thanks,
Tom Hargrave

This boat is more heavy than i thought, i towed it with my little Suzuki V6
and it had one hell of a hard time.
The Westy is a fine vehicle but not suited for such weight. The trany would
take quite a beating. I think the boat + trailer must be over 2200 pounds.
Now I need to buy me a Jeep Cherokee with a 6 inline. Men, that will be my
first US made car.
As for me and my women staing in the boat for a whole week... i don't know
:-) I'm not sure about not getting out of the boat for more than a day or 2.
Let's wait and see, maybe I'll feel very good.
Cheers, Ben
