Simple... keep a calendar, and after about two and a half weeks of use, refill. Seriously, this subject has been picked over a lot and if our tanks were mounted vertically, we might be able to use something like the indicators that apply to the side of the removable metal jugs. Being horizontal, they won't work. I think the $$$ gowesty replacement tank has a gauge in it, some kind of a float. If they can install one that means you can, too, if you have somebody to do the fab work if required. I don't know of anyone who has actually done it, though.
