Indeed it is sir, thank you. I knew as soon as someone identified it, it
would slam into place in my brain (not literally) and I would feel like a
doofus. I replaced the antenna a month or so ago, so I reckon that piece
fell into the dash somewhere to fall out this afternoon on the dirt road to
my mom's place.
I've been on heart medication for a couple of years now, and while the
manufacturer naturally denies it, the interwebs are full of anecdotes about
the effects of this stuff on the cognitive processes. It's been getting more
noticeable, and I'm getting concerned about it. It's either that or I have
another worse problem coming up from behind. Either way I need to have a sit
down with my cardiologist and maybe one with some other kindofologist. : (
Cya,
Robert

It is part of the antenna from a vanagon, the piece which slides inside the
unit to help secure it in place against the metal from the inside.
You will likely need to remove the driver's head light to get your hand in
place to replace it.

Look up the parts on Gowesty or Busdepot to see what the antenna detail
looks like... or if you have ETKA.

My wife has been driving the van today, which may or may not have anything
to do with anything, but when I got in a while ago this piece/part was lying
on the floorboard in front of the driver's seat.

It looks vaguely familiar; in fact it looks sort of like it came out of a
bicycle handlebar assembly but I know that's not it. Something to do with
the ignition switch assembly? Is it from the Vanagon at all? It's like it's
right on the tip of my brain.
Anybody know? Am I risking death, dismemberment or Republicanism by driving
the van?
Thanks,
Robert
