Don't most other locking gascaps just go on in a normal manner? Like your radiator cap? Put them into the slots, then make a quarter turn with the whole cap, then lock it in place? I've had other vehicles with external gas fillers and locking caps, and that is the way they all worked. Most, you can even put the cap on without locking it, should you choose to. Seems like a better idea and maybe that is what confuses 'Non-VW savvy' gas jockeys. My 84 frequently 'splooges' a couple of ozs. of gas as the pump auto-valve activates, too. I recall seeing something about how to fix that but I didn't pay attention. Don Hanson
