The report I heard on NPR a few weeks ago said that they must do that engine destroy process and then it goes to a junkyard and they can sell anything except the "drivetrain" off of it before it is crushed. They said some engines have run for up to 10 minutes at 2000rpm with that stuff in the oil pan. The crownvic they did on air ran about 10 seconds.

I felt better about the program knowing that all the body parts and stuff could be reused. Hate to see all that get wasted.
