In the something to read dept, I always try to get the local newspaper. Even the ads are interesting in a small town paper. It really gives you a flavor of what the locals are up to. Last Summer I forgot the charger for my digital camera battery. The same trip where I saw all kings of cool stuff and wanted to use the "good" camera a lot more than I expected. I thought it out and saw that it was a 6.4v (or something like that) battery. I bought a 9v alkaline battery and made a rig with paper clips and rubber bands to connect it to the digital camera battery. I even hooked up my multimeter at first to check the current flow.
