On my '91 Vanagon GL Campmobile, I have an oil drip from the oil pressure relief valve screw port. A mechanic here advised me that I should have him replace the entire valve for a substantial price. The port has recently been opened and the valve checked when I thought I was having oil pressure problems (not, I had oil pressure monitoring problem), and the valve was found to be good. I doubt it needs replaced. I should be able easily to fix the leak myself -- right? Should I just drain the oil, take out the port screw, and replace the gasket on that screw? Is the gasket a crushable gasket like on the oil drain plug, an o-ring, or what? What tool do I use on the port screw, just a big flat head screw driver? I assume the valve will not be disturbed by this procedure. Do I assume correctly? If it will be disturbed, I'll have someone do it, but not the guy who wants to replace the entire valve. Thanks, Dave Mc |
