Subject: My Vanagon Relocation Project...

Beginning on the evening of August 26th, my sister and I will commence our endeavor to drive two rather unfamiliar vanagons from the Pacific Northwest back home to Wisconsin.

For any of you mechanical wizards who may want to make yourselves available "on reserve", either by phone or potentially otherwise, in the event of any unforeseen major breakdown on that long lonesome highway, below is our hopeful itinerary:

August 26th and/or 27th: Drive from Salem area to Port Angeles area in a 1984 Westy.

August 28th: Drive from Port Angeles area toward Spokane on I-90 in 83 DV and Westy.

August 29th: Continue on I-90 through Missoula and stay overnight near Drummond, MT.

August 30th: Drive as far as possible staying on I-90/I94 East across MT/ND.

August 31st: I-94 East to Fargo then Highway 10 to Brainerd and 210 to I-35 to Duluth.

I plan to have Mike Peterson in Port Angeles do a quick inspection of both vanagons, and hopefully nothing too scary will be discovered. But I thought it might be a reasonable idea to post this travel plan, in case major problems arise and somebody on the list lives fairly close by the disaster area.

So, if you want to be "on reserve", please send a contact number and your general location to my personal email, as we will have a cell phone along. Don't worry, unless one literally breaks in half on the road, it is very unlikely I will ask anybody for help...

Hopefully these vans will malfunction at different times, and all will be self-manageable.

Doug
