The 180 degrees clockwise is crankshaft degrees, not dist rotor degrees. Dist rotor degrees would be 90 each time.

It is very common when fooling with the valve adjustment to get the adjusters tight enough that the valves don't close all the way. A compression check will quickly prove if this has happened.

I once did accidentally try and start it when I had the distributor cap laying on it's side, I replaced the dist. cap and rotor to be sure nothing was wrong. The starting problem definitely seems to be timing related somehow. > ? I lined up the rotor with #1 cylinder on dist cap and then 180 degrees (counter clockwise) for each cylinder to continue the valve adjust. Am I somehow way off? Maybe I was on the wrong clyliner somehow. My 71 used to have a notch on a pully to line up with the engine to find #1, can I do this too to on the 86? > ??? Thank you, Andy (feeling like I should have left well enough alone) >
