Mr. Squirrel, if water overflowed the fill up tube, it may have run into
the wall of the van, especially if the filler housing is cracked or
misfit.  Contrary to what some others have said, there is some
fiberglass insulation between the van outside body wall and the
cabinetry inside.  I would suspect that the fiberglass was saturated,
and it took a while for the water to drip out.  If so, it is a potential
rust initiator.

How do you get the tank to fill rapidly, even with a rapid flow rate?  I
have to keep the flow rate very low, or water fills the filler tube and
overflows.  It takes a long while for me to fill the tank, being careful
to avoid overflows due to backup as I go.
