Given that it snapped, was the weld iffy? If weld was ok, but part susceptible to snapping.... (I've read that they sometimes snap)

Could one slip the broken parts into a sleeve then weld at each end of sleeve between sleeve and drop link? Sleeve would have to be a relatively tight fit to ensure alignment of part(s), and of course, this would be assuming drop link snapped somewhere near the middle.
