Dinner..... err Bear Bells announce your presence to the bears. Some research has indicated that this is NOT a good thing as it makes them curious and they come investigate. Bear Spray works on some bears but not all. The dog notifies us about all bears, she does not discriminate like the spray nor attract like the bells.

We did have a bear in our camp last weekend but it left us alone and we would not have known it was there at all were it not for the snuffling sound and tracks left behind. No dog or snake bite kit with us though as we were kayak camping and could not fit the Dane into one of the hatches and did not bring snake kit with us. Yes, a few stores do sell them here even though we are snake free. Vanagon content is the two Syncro's we left on shore that got us and gear to Seward and back.
