More About That. A quick lesson from the master learnt me that the shift points are governed by the 'governor' which like the rotating governor on steam engines senses rotation and in the case of an AT shuffles the valving in the valve body to switch gears via the bands and so on.

WOT characteristics of the shifting have to do with a valve that is controlled by the throttle/accelerator linkage directly.
