Well, yeah, if you don't gots metal to crunch lock washer teeth into, then ALL ground wires need to be brought out into the open for daily visual and mechanical inspection. I bet, though, that if there is sufficient metal to support the relay, there's sufficient to carry the small amount of current that the coil needs.
