Well, yeah, if you don't gots metal to crunch lock washer teeth into, then
ALL ground wires need to be brought out into the open for daily visual and
mechanical inspection. I bet, though, that if there is sufficient metal to
support the relay, there's sufficient to carry the small amount of current
that the coil needs. Once you've cut through the paint and scales and
barnacles and rust, that is.
