hi, that's cute........'sheltered automotive life' . or perhaps lack of exposure to what passes the 'culture' that modern life is. I was thinking - anyone who watches TV probably has seen cars jumping on hydraulics at least once or twice, you'd think. Anyway, glad you're enlightened now.

I hadn't heard that some of the cars don't even have drivetrains - seems kind of phony to me.

I do have this fabulous 78 Mercedes 450 SLC 4 seat sports car, for sale cheap, running too, that would make a great low rider with hydraulics. It's in the Medford Oregon Craigslist right now. Fuel injected V-8 Mercedes power too. Just needs a few 'tasteless' mods to make it really cool, like a wing on the trunk. I have lead a sheltered automotive life. The Vanagon was a HUGE leap of faith for me.

Never regretted it.

People are not familiar with hydraulics in street hot rods and show cars ?

Very powerful, fast acting hydraulic rams are fitted to the suspension at each corner of the car. The trunk is usually packed with batteries and electric motors to provide the hydraulic pressure used.

the idea is to get the car jumping completely into the air, usually one end or the other. I don't think they get them to jump straight up and down so much, just one end or the other.

the cord is a remote control, so the guy doesn't have to be in the van while it's jumping.

Cool, I'm starting to build one of my own this week ! I have enough vanagon bodies to play with that's for sure. and if anyone needs any rust free vanagon bodies ...........for whatever, art projects, build from scratch into the ultimate camper, complete swap over of your good stuff from your rusted van, etc, etc. I got 'em. No reasonable offer refused ! :-) Southern Oregon .....super dry climate too, good for no rust.

Forgive my ignorance, but what is that coming out of the driver's side of the bus? Is the guy controlling the dancing bus? Pete '79 Westy "Aardvark" '87 Westy "Joe's Van" WWW.Busesbythebeach.com
