Subject: Door (upper) Speakers. Max Size? + More ?'s
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi all.

Searched the archives. Most posts dealt with swapping out the *factory* size speakers with something similar. I have an '81 Westy.

The hacked up speakers in bottom of my doors are toast. The Blaupunkt 8 track will be replaced. (likely with this http://tinyurl.com/mkohvp). I'll be curious to see just how well a "SuperTuner IIID" works. That and the USB port are the main selling features.

As for speakers, I need to hear the bass (what key are they in?) but don't need "thumpa thumpa thumpa (rest) thumpa thumpa thumpa capable speakers. <grin>

I assume speaker depth, and grill height are crucial, but in general, what is the maximum diameter speaker that can be installed in the stock position? (Upper portion above/forward of window crank)

Anyone fit these 5.25" in w/o to much hassle?

Or these 4"?

Or would I be better off spending more on some Polk Audio quality 4"? (can't seem to find a vendor for those up here in Vancouver B. C. though)

I realize it's been discussed before, just couldn't find a definitive answer as to maximum size and could use some real world opinions on size and quality.

Thanks!

Neil.
