PS -- but amazingly, literally an hour ago I "ran into" the van I asked about last week, with What Would Jeff Do etc. Turns out that a) it is in fact the dog trainer at http://www.whatwouldjeffdo.com/ and b) HE'S LIVED ABOUT A THOUSAND FEET FROM ME FOR YEARS! Because of the dogs there's a driveway gate such that you can't see the van when it's parked, and I only drive down that road every few months, but it's a hundred feet straight ahead from a corner/traffic light that I'm at at least every few days, sometimes several times a day for the last fifteen years, barring the times when I was having trouble getting out of the house, flat on my back from depression, suchlike. And he's on the road all the time, hundreds of miles a day he said. Had the van about seven years IIRC, loves it. It's treated him well. I wouldn't be surprised if you meet him before long -- we just basically said "Hi" because I had to go.

We certainly do, salt vs nonsalt at the very least. These days driving around Providence I see one every few months. I just took a 600-mi round trip into Maine and a 1500 mile one into southeastern Ohio, and saw zero vanagons and zero buses.

But they were always expensive and never a popular vehicle in market-percentage terms. Remember how VW kept changing their mind about bringing in the T4s?
