Quarter teaspoon in a pint might be a reasonable place to start. I tend to use a small squirt in what might be a pint or so for a tire, and slurp/wipe it on with a paper towel. You don't want it to be eager to foam, or leave a lot of residue behind. Even though that may leave bubbles on the tire it's not confusing because a leak will give you a little growing pile of tiny bubbles, or visibly growing larger ones.
