Having been born & raised in Hawai'i, I bet you an ugly part failure, that those vanagons are ruuuuusssstyyyy. Everything there gets rusty w/in 5-10 years because of the salty air. There is very little "highway" speed driving, as the roads are short, the traffic overwhelming, & most driving there can be stop & go, so cars wear out quickly. That said, VW's were plentiful, & good vehicles for low powered Hawai'i driving, so maybe I am wrong again, & these have held up over the years?

YMMV,

Mr. BZ
