That's a big part in my case. The other is that all it's "power" comes above about 3500 rpm, not good for a granny-gear offroad excursion in my experience. Also an interference engine with "issues" with the cam belt tensioner, which "froze" on the freeway (I-50 in SW Colorado, 6 1/2 hours from home). All the valves introduce themselves to the piston tops when that happens on an interference engine.

It had inherent vibration problems in its original iteration, which was improved only slightly when they started offering it in "serpentine-belt" kit iteration later. Still had vibes. Mine was so bad at one time that the alternator bolt loosened and came off and fell on the water pump belt, resulting in instant overheating and damaged the head gasket while I was in Phoenix. Luckily had family in the neighborhood so I could stay several days while a shop that was a TIICO authorized shop, put a 1.8 head gasket on the 2.0 head, resulting in the same thing happening about 800 miles later. ;-(

I live in a hilly city/state (Utah) and this motor never had a chance of taking on the topography/geology here.

Not sure but think that the SA company is going diesel. Jon at FAS has always been a great mechanic/tech expert for TIICO. Look here: http://www.foreignautosupply.com/Tiico_Turbo_Diesel.html
