It's easy when the dash is out but with some effort you can reach under and way up to do it past the fuse panel. Of course it comes out from the top (!) but you can wiggle it out eventually.

That's the common thing. Controller problems are much less common. Note my offer to repair gauges, btw. I've no idea yet whether it will turn out to be cheaper than a replacement gauge. Depends what people get for them. I imagine it would be cheaper than a brand new one, though.
