Subject: Broke something
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

My rear tires are wearing on the inside so I figured it was time to replace my rear bearings and a good time to repack my CV joints. Thanks to Van Cafe for a bearing kit?with a good price. I looked trough the Bentley and I would need this Vw tool and that Vw tool but it didn't take me long to find easier instructions online at BTDT. When I pulled my?inner CV joint I was surprized to find it full of oil so I went back?to BTDT and sure enough great instructions on how to repair the problem. I really would like to thank everyone who writes the articles and who maintains the BTDT web site. The site is here just in case you are wondering: ?http://www.vanagonauts.com/Welcome...54.htm?

The only snag I ran into so far is that I broke the plastic lock ring that is held with 2 Philips screws that is located on the transaxle in behind the drive shaft flange. This part does not seem to do much in my opinion and I'm wondering if I could silicone the crack together. Is this part still available? I do have a couple parts vans but I really don't want to be pulling axles for nothing. How critical is this part?

Specs on rear of bus: 1991 Vanagon with 2.1 and 4 speed standard transmission.

Cheers, Gerry
