I bring the same as everyone for tools, tie-wire, electrical test lights etc. A water pump/alternator belt...fuel pump and filter. Master cylinder (old one). Having a transplanted inline 4 VW, most of the parts are readily available...same as Jetta, Rabbit, some new Beetles, etc etc etc. And most VW mechanics will work on it without special knowledge needed...Maybe half a dozen different long running VW models used the same basic 1.8>2liter motor for years so most shops know how to fix em and have the part access covered. Instead of Vanagon-specific parts stash, I can carry lots of bicycle spares... Don hanson
