With all the coolant plumbing a Vanagon has - and the one experience I
had with sudden and rapid  coolant loss once in my
85GL, I DO NOT EVER want to be without the two stage warning system that
the light and temperature gage constitute. That light coming on when it
did gave me enough time to realize  the impending  disaster, shut down
and save the engine.

Proper operation of the coolant level light is critical, and I consider
it foolish to operate the Vanagons without it - given how they are designed.

I've just got to get mine fixed properly.
