Hi Jeff

Looks like you're doing well. Good pics.

Mine own has almost made it to completion after a similar thermostat failure and catastrophic overheat coming home from Buses Of The Corn.

I replaced the gaskets on an otherwise known-good donor engine, then I swapped over the cooling and FI from the old engine. I now have the engine in, coolant is filled and burped and the exhaust is bolted up. It starts and runs, but it's a bit louder than I'd like as there are still two gaskets that remain to be replaced. I also need to go over the valve adjustments one more time, as it seems to be missing a LOT of midrange power and it clatters quite a bit. It seems to drive OK up to half throttle or so but when accellerating it makes no difference whatsoever if you give it anything more than half throttle.

I did a compression check after my initial valve adjustment... I got 180/180/165/175. I am OK with that. The engine does shake a lot when it's idling though. As soon as I get time to get back out to the driveway I plan to verify the valve adjustment and then go hunting for vacuum leaks...

When I eventually get time to do a post mortem on the dead engine I'll be sure post pics so Scott can judge who suffered the most horrific carnage.

Happy Trails,
