No kidding ! Possibly a case of 'a tiny bit of knowledge being a dangerous thing' perhaps. Be sure to use synthetic grease - just joking.

depending on what year vanagon you have .......there might even be two bleed nipples on that caliper, like up to 85. The top 'grease fitting' is the bleed screw you want to use.....for bleeding brakes.

Brakes and grease want to be kept completely away from each other !

not to make the poster feel bad....not at all, but brings a smile to my face thinking about professionals having a brake caliper rebuild job to do, and how hilarious they would find a caliper piston chamber full of grease ! Over the years pro techs get to see some very entertaining things ! Breaks the monotony of day in and day out ordinary service like regular brake jobs etc. Of course, you'd have to find a way to relieve the pressure if you wanted to pump a brake caliper piston chamber full of grease, like undo the brake line, so the grease could get in. Might lubricate the piston really nicely though ! - for a while. But the pistons would have trouble retracting after applying the brakes you'd think.

Is this some secret new way to unstuck stuck caliper pistons on 1980 to 85 Vanagons !! ? I think it might just be !

I can't think of one grease gun fitting on a vanagon, off the top of my head. I don't think there is one anywhere. There are a few places there should be though. what good fun we are having ! Scott www.turbovans.com

It may look similar to a grease fitting but it is a bleeder valve for brake fluid.

DO NOT inject grease into that fitting. (It wouldn't take much unless the valve was opened but it is still a wrong thing to do).
