Nice try, but no it makes no difference. FWIW, I can hear the magnet "click" at the 4 gallon mark, but not at the higher 10 gallon mark.  The gauge just reads full.

  Adding a teaspoon of salt to the tank of water may "fix" your problem, if the water in your
  area is very pure, as in glacier or aquifer water.
