Sorry, I can't really help there, except to suggest that it may be difficult to get the timing right so long as the AFM is malfunctioning. Fuel problems may be interfering with ignition. When my AFM was bad, and I had "vanagon syndrome," the engine ran rich all the time, and I suspect the computer tried to set things to compensate. When I got a new AFM installed, then ignition problems almost self corrected. I had started somewhat like you, new fuel filter, new ignition parts, set timing. Everything worked out, after the new AFM.
