I'd keep away from the spray on rust inhibitors -- not tested for use with fruit preparation surfaces -- who knows what lurks within, and what it might become upon vaporization to be deposited on food. Cooking oil? You mean season it like you do cast iron cookware? Go for it. Doubt it will work, as it will likely burn off.
