Hi, looks like it would be either CIS-E, which you identify by stainless braided fuel hoses from Fuel Distributor to engine and a few other connections, so 'lots' of stainless braided fuel hoses running around. .

more likely I suspect is Digifant II - fully electronic, with injectors triggered by the ECU, much like vanagon, but step or two more evolved. This according to my Bentely Manual for Foxes, 1987 to 1993, which I'd like to sell. Pmail me if interested please. Scott www.turbovans.com

hmmm, I see it mentions Digifant I too, with On Board Diagnostics ( OBD -I I imagine ) . That's interesting. Double hmmmm......wonder if I can fit that system to a waterboxer . ( I can't tell what all this era systems have, but if a Digifant system with DTC's ( diagnostic trouble codes ) , knock sensor igniton, and Air Mass Meter instead of Air FLow Meter, and is four cylinder VW-based ............that could make a much better engine management system for a waterboxer. Thanks for helping me notice this. )
