Planning a trip to the Virginia Beach area on family business, we though we'd combine it with a break from porch construction and camp at First Landing SP tomorrow night. I called the Virginia State Parks reservation line and was assisted by a lovely woman who extremely helpful and efficient but who had absolutely no idea what a VW camper is. Evidently, the park is still busy and things are tight so she was trying to assess our needs (water, electricity?) and even called the park to verify the availability. When I told her what we were driving, she said, "What is that? How big is that RV? You can get the 30-foot space or the 40-foot space." Wow! We love these vehicles and assume others do, too, or at least know what they are. It's kind of humbling to realize the extent to which other folks' worlds do not revolve around them. Stephen |
